Feng Kaiqi Design and research

A box of nails. The evening before someone leaves home. A video nobody dared to post. A bird crossing the sea. A person lives a life among these things: with other people, with so much data, with AI.

Feng Kaiqi: selected works

  1. The Agent Became Me. A study of AI that shops for us. Whatever it happens to pick, the shop files as my taste; Clean Record tries to keep my profile looking like me.
  2. Zingaline. An installation: one visitor at a time, alone at a desk for six to nineteen minutes. You write down one thing you wish you could do over, and the page is shredded. A version of you made from those words takes a son’s place on the night before he leaves home. That night had been rehearsed 2,000 times before you came.
  3. TennisAtom. An AI film crew turns an amateur player's clip into a film they'd dare to post.
  4. Feeding the Cloud. A critical wearable. Each food-related upload, a photo, a search, a booking, an order, fills a second stomach a little, so the feeding of the cloud can be felt, seen and argued with.
  5. Wings & Wires. A scrolling data essay. Migrating birds are tracked with precision; people who die crossing borders are often left as a blank. I set the two records side by side to see who decides what gets written down, and what is left empty.
  6. 30-Minute Contract. Research through design on food-delivery work. The paper is under anonymous review; the full record follows the decision.
